Our History

The first public school in Norway was opened in 1879 with classes held in a carpenter shop owned by the Menominee Range Mining Company. Today, following the consolidation in 1964 of Norway City Schools, Norway Township, Waucedah Township and Faithorn, the Norway-Vulcan Area Schools serves nearly 800 students from a two-county area. The modern kindergarten through 12th grade campus is located on a 30 acre site nestled between neighborhoods, forests and lakes. Constructed in 1991 with additions in 1993 and 2000, facilities include three gymnasiums, centralized media center and the 684 seat Norway Fine Arts Center.

The Tradition Continues!

The Michigan Department of Education has issued its EdYES! School Reports Cards for 2009-2010.  Once again, all three Norway-Vulcan schools received a grade of 'A'.  In addition, on the MDE's Top to Bottom list Norway High School was ranked as the second highest achieving high school in the Upper Peninsula.  Congratualtions to students, staff and parents on continuing the tradition of achievement.
